    Travel

Our Tastemakers don’t follow guides, they make them. These are their go-to spots: the places they actually spend time in, recommend to friends, and keep going back to.

10 Corso Como, Milan, chosen by Semaine tastemaker Padma Lakshmi

Insider tip: "Italy is more than the renaissance and pasta, it’s the laughter of children, the cold feel on your tongue of the perfect gelato, and the little shops on side streets that aren't global corporations. Go in spring or fall, September is actually the perfect month. If you're in Milan, check out 10 Corso Como for a day of shopping."

    Ginza West

“Working with different forms, different materials, different processes is what inspires me to do the next thing. When it comes to the trend, however, the criticisms will of course arise. In a period of food scarcity, we discuss whether we can justify using an excess amount of food in the name of art. Something about food is very attractive and very sensory.”

Chome-3-6 Ginza, Chuo City Tokyo 104-0061, Japan

Le Sirenuse chosen by Semaine Tastemaker Luke Edward Hall

"One of my all-time favourite hotels: an extremely warm welcome, a beautiful view and rooms stuffed with heavenly antiques and objects. Oh, Positano!"

    Le Sirenuse

Via Cristoforo Colombo, 30, 84017 Positano SA, Italy

Cafe Altro Paradiso, Chosen by Semaine Tastemaker Laila Gohar

Located on a bright downtown corner, Altro Paradiso serves chef-owner Ignacio Mattos' light, satisfying takes on Italian cuisine.

Marché aux Puces, France, chosen by Semaine tastemaker Clara Luciani

Les Puces de Saint-Ouen is a sprawling network of warehouses, stands and alleyways that put any other carboot sale to shame. With over 5 million visitors a year, it is worth spending some time browsing this area of Paris.

Lee Kung Man, Hong Kong, Chosen by Semaine Tastemaker Erchen Chang

"A shop that sells old school Chinese kung fu wear, but they are just really comfortable cotton and knitwear shop with a small selection of design. Every time I go to Hong Kong, I have to stop by leekungman for a restock. I used to wear the golden deer button shirt for inside the chef white. And their packaging is beautiful, it’s perfect for gifting too."

Sir Anthony Van Dijck, Chosen by Semaine Tastemaker Apollonia Poilâne

“For a family or friends meal in Antwerp, a historical place and comforting foods.”

    Sir Anthony Van Dijck

    Antwerp, Belgium

    Oude Koornmarkt 16 2000 Antwerp

Blue Ribbon Sushi, chosen by Semaine tastemaker Cathrine Saks & Barbara Potts

"We always go there straight from the airport — it’s the perfect spot when you’re jet-lagged and craving something easy, fast, and incredibly good. It’s truly the best restaurant, and we have so many beautiful memories there with my friends like Caroline Bille Brahe, who used to live just down the street."

    Casa Lawa

    Casa Lawa

    Sicily, Italy

Via Paterno Castello, 22, 95010 Sant'Alfio CT, Italy

Bathing in the mystical views of Mount Etna on the rocky hillside of the Eastern Sicilian countryside is a small haven that is Casa Lawa.

“The Lava House”, the passion project of creative director Lukas Lewandowski, stands as a beacon of creativity, connection, and vibrant energy. This boutique guesthouse is a sanctuary where guests can rejuvenate, explore their creativity, and form lasting bonds with people from diverse back-grounds. Lukas fell in love with Sicily during a trip in2016 and later established Casa Lawa to offer guests a unique experience combining Sicilian traditions with a contemporary twist.

    Casa Lawa Semaine Sicily

The volcanic soil around Etna is exceptionally fertile, supporting a rich agricultural tradition, while the eruptions have repeatedly transformed the landscape and forced the sector to rebuild, contributing to its resilience and unique character. The constant presence of Mount Etna has made this a region that reflects both the beauty and the destructive power of nature. Colour and design are the first things you will notice upon arrival at the small lava stone house. Striped deck chairs overlook the lava swimming pool, primary-coloured sheets on the Coco-Mat beds, and a mish-mash of thrifted and vintage crockery and cutlery spread over the game-themed, tapestry-covered outdoor dining tables.

Venture further inside and the attention to design detail is abundant, gallery walls with eclectic paintings, an attentive mixture of old and new objects, antique paintings in modern frames, the theme of anachronistic beauty runs through each room. A specific adoration for colour is clear, reds and yellows, blues and greens, even the dull kitchen appliances have had colourful makeovers, a purple KitchenAid, an orange coffee machine! It’s a real technicolour dream house.

A flexi-boutique hotel/guest-house would be the way to describe Casa Lawa, nothing is predictable and nor would we want it to be. The programs for the guests are merely guidelines, suggestions on how best to enjoy everything that Sicily has to offer, but the promise of sunshine, design, good food, and fantastic company is enough to lure anyone in. If we could move in tomorrow, we would.
